How to Erase All Data on iPhone Without Any Recovery Possibility

Hi, my friend, before you sell or give away your iPhone, you should erase iPhone data permanently. Especially today when we rely on phone more than ever before. Your iPhone contains banking information, logins, emails, contacts, photos, messages and so much more. Meanwhile, cybercrime is rampant around the world. So wipe or erase your iPhone data is wise choice and necessary task before selling or give it away.

Giveumore introduces you 4 popular methods to wipe or erase iPhone. Most of iPhone users use one of the following methods:

Method 1: Erase all content and settings directly from iPhone

Method 2: Quick format iPhone using iTunes

Method 3: Permanently delete iPhone data manually

Method 4: Permanently delete iPhone data by software

Note: While the first two methods takes long enough to make most people assume data stored in iPhone is erased safely, it actually isn't. They doesn't destroy the file system. In both cases, all of the personal information that was sitting on the device prior to the erase or restore is still left sitting in the unallocated blocks of the iPhone's NAND memory. So they just fit for someone who didn't store important data on iPhone, because the data erased by them can be recovered easily. If you want to erase sensitive and important data permanently, you must choose the last two methods.

Method 1: Erase all content and settings directly from iPhone

Step 1: Go Settings > General > Reset.

Step 2: Select Erase All Content and Settings. If you have a passcode enabled, you will be asked to type it.

Step 3: A message will warn you that this will delete all media and data and reset all settings. Tap Erase iPhone to confirm.

Step 4: Another similar message will give you a final chance to cancel. If you’re sure you want to completely wipe your device, then tap Erase iPhone.

Step 5: If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you will be asked to type in your Apple ID password. Enter your password and tap Erase. This will erase your device and remove it from your account.

The device will start the deletion process, which could take a few minutes.

Method 2: Quick format iPhone using iTunes

Step 1: Plug your iPhone via USB to your computer, then launch iTunes.

Step 2: On the Summary page in iTunes, click Restore iPhone.

Step 3: If you have Find My iPhone on, iTunes will display a message asking you to turn it off. To do so, go to your iPhone and navigate to Settings > iCloud > Find My iPhone > Off.

Step 4: Go back to iTunes and click Restore iPhone… one more time.

Step 5: A message will ask if you first want to back up your device. If you do, select Back Up. If not, select Don’t Back Up. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will not backup the device.

Step 6: You will then see a final warning similar to this: Are you sure you want to restore the iPhone to its factory settings? All of your media and other data will be erased. If you’re sure about yourself, click Restore.

Step 7: Depending on your situation, iTunes might tell you that it has detected purchased content that has not been synced with iTunes. Click Continue. You will always be able to download your content for free later on if necessary.

iTunes will start downloading the latest version available for your device, and once done, it will start restoring your iPhone, which should take a few minutes.

Method 3: Permanently delete iPhone data manually

For iOS system, the only way to completely wipe or erase the data is to overwrite the original contents. Permanently wipe iPhone data manually like a tech guy is not easy, some knowledge of iPhone beyond that of the casual user is required. Here is the guide:

1. Change passwords for all mail accounts that are synced to the iPhone.

2. Make sure iPhone can no longer open the mail accounts.

3. Do an erase/restore of the iPhone, preferably using another computer or at least another account than the one the device was synced with.

4. Sync as many songs/videos of a non-compromising nature and nothing else to the newly restored device as will fit.

5. Fill the iPhone up with data (songs/videos).

6. After you have filled iPhone up, do another erase/restore.

7. Repeat steps 4/5 with different content and erase/restore again. The more times you do this, the more times the data will be overwritten, thus having a less chance of recovery.

Method 4: Permanently delete iPhone data by software

If you are newbie user or not familiar with technical skill, using iPhone data wiping software like SafeEraser, PhoneClean is effective choice. They are the best compared to the similar software among our test. They are much easier solution comparing to erasing your iPhone data by manual. As SafeEraser has been updated with photo compress feature which make it more popular, here I take it for example to show you how to easily wipe iPhone data and without recovery possibility. You can download it and follow these steps to wipe your iPhone, after that no recovery method can access your data anymore.

Step 1: Download, Install and Run iPhone Cleaner.

Then connect your iPhone to computer via USB cable, it can identify your iPhone device within seconds and show the device parameter. Here I take Mac Version for example. If you are a Windows user, click here.

Step 2: Choose the Erasing Option and Begin to Scan

It provides four options: "Express Cleanup" "Erase Private Data" "Erase Deleted Files" and "Erase All Data" , select right one you need.

Step 3: Analyze and scan the private data on your iPhone.

Step 4: Preview Scanned Data and Erase Them Now

Step 5. In the prompt, type the word “Delete” to confirm the deletion.

After that, even the most sophisticated data recovery software isn't able to get any information from the given device.
